Time for new challenges!

Here in the mid-west, it has been one of those winters full of snow and school closings.  In fact, just last week as I was beginning this newsletter, I was taking frequent breaks to look out the window at Tre (my six yr old) and Rick (my hubby) shoveling the drive way and playing in the snow.  Another 5 inches coated the ground in one night on top of the foot that we still had left over from last week.  That meant we were 'enjoying' out 5th snow day off school in 2 weeks.  For many of you, it has been cold now for at least a few months and to be honest, we are all ready to find some warm beach.  It can really be tough to focus on your training and diet when, as Tracy Richardson put it - "in this weather, my 'bear' mentality kicks in and all I want to do is hibernate on the couch!".

Abs BannerI say this is the time to take on new challenges!  January is the month when most people decide to make resolutions and line out goals.  That is great.  But by Feb, gym attendance begins to wain as the reality hits of how hard it can be to reach your goals.  4 weeks of morning cardio and general clean eating are starting to wear on even the strongest of spirits and the cold, gloomy month that is February does not help the cause.  

Like many of you, my motivation has taken a dive over the last few weeks, especially as a Fitness Competitor recovering from a third knee surgery and forced to take a break from her sport.  My recovery is going very well and I am back in the gym working hard, but it will still be a few months before I am cleared to tumble or flip (I compete in Fitness which involves lots of both!)  In the mean time though, we are approaching the local NPC contest season and I have several photoshoots & appearances in March & April that I really want to be in amazing condition for.  

So, I have personally decided to take on a new challenge, I am going to compete in a Triathlon.  And I have to tell you, letting you all know is huge motivation for me as I am now accountable to you : )  You can bet that will be on my mind during those long, hard runs and swims...the biking I really like so that part should be ok!  My first triathlon will be the Tri for Joe (www.TriforJoe.com) which supports Down's Syndrome Research, a cause that I feel very passionately about.  If you have ever considered doing a Triathlon or are looking for a new challenge, then I encourage you to come out and give this one a try with me : )

So maybe Triathlon's are not the challenge you are looking for.  Maybe you are doing all the hard work necessary now to step on stage at your best this spring.  Or, maybe you have those favorite pair of skinny jeans that you really, really want to fit into again.  No matter what your personal goal is, challenges and goals are what makes life interesting.  They help shape who we are and test our strength, determination and limits. Through each new challenge, you learn something. About yourself, about your faith, about the person you were always supposed to be. Bring it on and know inside, when no one else is watching, that you did everything you could to make it happen.

Normally, he is packed shooting for companies and magazines but in March and April, he is setting specific days aside for you! These shoots can be to capture your contest conditioning or personal transformation or to build your modeling portfolio.
