Name: Valerie Jurkovich

Hometown: Cincinnati (been here for 2 years - Original hometown: Cleveland, OH)

Personal Information:  I've been an athlete for the majority of my 29 years of life - ranging from softball, gymnastics, ice skating, soccer, cross country running, track, weight lifting and snowboarding!  I started becoming interested in competing in Figure/Fitness when my engineering job transferred me to Cincinnati a couple years ago.  

What are your greatest fitness accomplishments so far?
2009 - Cincinnati NPC Figure A - 5th Place
2008 - Central Indiana NPC Figure A - 4th Place
2004 - Cleveland Spring Classic 1/2 Marathon - 1st Place in my age group
 
Transformation info:
I have started the program with Julie in mid-January '09 weighing in at 133 with 18% body fat - 3 months later, my body fat decreased to 14%, while gaining 2 lbs of muscle.  At the Cincinnati NPC, I weighed in at 121 lbs.   
Discipline and logging daily food intake/workouts is a must when wanting to transform your body.  In years past, I used to think that since I worked out, I could eat anything under the sun!  Man, was I wrong!!  

What do you enjoy most about fitness?
I think of Fitness as a personal piece of artwork - its amazing seeing the progression overtime and how a body can transform into a sculpture! Fitness is also such a great stress relief - it gets addicting to the point that I get crabby if I don't workout.  

What are your fitness goals?
I am in the process in training for a Fitness competition - I would like to compete in at least 3 shows within this year.
 
What motivates you to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
There are a lot of factors:
1. My time - If I'm going to spend the time and energy in a gym, I don't want to throw that hour away by eating a Twix bar (I will save those for competition days!)
 
2. My stomach - I can't handle most non-healthy foods - I can't even remember the last time I had any fried foods - If I did, I can count down to the minute when my stomach will start aching and will have to make sure there's a bathroom near-by - not fun times!
 
3. My clothes - I don't want to have party arms when wearing my tank-tops in the summer.     

What is the best part about working with Julie?
She understands what type of nutrition works best for a female's body - I didn't feel that I was fighting against my body's cravings throughout the program.  My body fat loss was approached the healthy route, unlike other rapid fat loss programs. I am able to stay focused on my end goal and will keep my eating behaviors for many years to come.
 
Favorite 'diet' food:
Salt-free Chicken...mmm-MMMM!  :-P
Just kidding...  I LOVE my sweet potatoes with Stevia and Cinnamon - Simple and oh so good!
