Dear Rick,
We are on the crest of an outstanding spring contest season, so hold on to your protein shakes and jump in. Now is the time to get out there and show off all the hard work you did this winter. The Northern Kentucky Bodybuilding and Figure show is this weekend, Team Fitbody is in excellent shape and I forsee lots of trophies in our future. It has been 12 long weeks of low calories and tons of training. Take the time now to pamper yourself and attend to all the small details that will make you stand out above the competition. If you're not competing this weekend, or for that matter have never competed. Treat yourself to a bit of motivation and go see a show. If you are in NKY/Cincinnati area, get to the show this weekend ( Link Here). Also check out the upcoming events section of my site for a full list of spring shows and clinics. Now is the time to shine. I am so proud of this years team! Thank you for working so hard!!! Yours in Fitness, Julie :) PS - Thank you for your support as I competed last month too, you guys rock! Thanks for cheering me on! |

Julie takes the questions this month :)
Thanks Abbey S. for your question!!!
Q. Question - I am competing for the first time on Saturday and want to be sure I look my best on the day of the show. What exercises can I do at the show to pump up?
A. Answer - Congratulations on making it to your show! You ask a great question about how best to pump up. Before walking on stage, it is important to be warm and have some blood flow to your muscles. When you normally workout in the gym, you will notice that with each exercise, your muscles look and feel bigger. Pumping up is specifically to give you a tighter, fuller look on stage. Be sure not to over do it. Excess sweat will wreak havoc on your tan and cause your makeup to run. This workout should be done with in 20 minutes of going on stage. Note: DO NOT PUMP UP LEGS! THIS WILL TAKE BLOOD FROM YOUR UPPER BODY CAUSE YOU TO LOOK SMALLER AT THE TOP.
Pump Up Routine - Use a moderate weight about 60% of usual. Often you will have to make due with what is available. If time does not allow for the full routine, perform one set of each exercise. Use either dumbbells or a band. DB Lateral Raises 3 sets / 8-10 reps Pushups 2 sets / 8-10 reps Bench Dips 2 sets / 8-10 reps Bent Over Rows 2 sets / 8-10 reps DB Front Raises 2 sets / 8-10 reps Seated Ab Crunches 3 sets / 8-10 reps DB Bicep Curls 2 sets / 8-10 reps
